NTT Governor Encourages Airport Development On Adonara Island

East Nusa Tenggara Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat has encouraged the construction of an airport on Adonara Island, East Flores Regency, to increase transportation access in the local area. "It is very important to build an airport on Adonara Island to help serve transportation in the East Flores, Lembata, and Alor areas," he said in a press release from the Public Relations Bureau of the NTT Provincial Secretariat received in Kupang, Antara, Friday, April 28. He conveyed this in a meeting with residents during a working visit to Adonara Island, East Flores Regency. Adonara Island has the potential for exotic natural beauty in the form of beautiful mountains as well as attractive beaches and seas. Therefore, he said, airport infrastructure is needed to support the development of tourism potential and other sectors on Adonara Island. "We want the airport runway to be built up to 3,000 meters so that it can be based on wide-body aircraft," he said. According to him, if the airport can be built on Adonara Island, it will support tourism other than Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency and other districts on Flores Island and have a positive impact on improving the regional economy. The public, he said, must also be ready for various things such as environmental cleanliness, increasing English language skills, and others. "This is important for us to help provide services for visitors from abroad who come," he said During his visit, the Governor of NTT also visited the Creative Village of Pledo Village, Witihama District, to meet face to face with local residents.

He also encouraged the importance of building a generation of women who are qualified and able to become development cadres to be able to support empowerment programs for the welfare of the community.
