Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD reminded the importance of implementing moderate Islamic teachings (wasathiyah) to maintain the integrity of the Indonesian state.
This was conveyed by Mahfud when giving a lecture during the commemoration of Nuzulul Quran with PDI-P cadres (PDIP) at the At-Taufiq Mosque at the PDIP Jakarta School Complex, Tuesday, April 11 evening.
Mahfud MD explained that Islam wasathiyah teaches a balanced relationship (tawazul) in the life of the nation and state, an attitude of tolerance (tambal) because it recognizes that differences are a blessing, and a vision to always live in harmony and peace (Isalah).
In front of PDIP cadres, including General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri and DPR Speaker Puan Maharani who were present virtually, Mahfud MD said the 1st President of the Republic of Indonesia Soekarno practiced wasathiyah Islamic teachings because they were in line with Pancasila as the basis of the state.
