GARUT - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Garut Regency, West Java conveyed the provincial route as an alternative road that connects Bandung-Garut in Talegong covered by landslides.
"There was a landslide closing the provincial road in Sukàmulya Village, today in handling the West Java Province PUPR UPT," said Head of BPBD Garut Regency Satria Budi when contacted by cell phone in Garut, Antara, Tuesday, April 11.
Landslides were reported to have occurred last Monday night. The incident did not cause any casualties, only blocking the cross-south provincial road that connects Garut Regency with Bandung.
Satria said that with the incident, the flow of vehicles from Bandung to Garut and vice versa was hampered, for the time being the road could only be crossed by two-wheeled vehicles.
"The road is closed and today can only be passed by two wheels, hopefully this afternoon it can be passed, even in one direction," he said.
Camat Talegong M Badar Hamid added that the landslide and rocks occurred when heavy rains flushed the southern area of Garut on Monday at around 21.30 WIB which caused the provincial road to be completely closed.
He conveyed that a number of officers from district and provincial governments and the community were trying to clean up avalanche materials so that the road could be crossed again safely and comfortably.
"Four-wheeled vehicles still cannot pass, while motorbikes can pass," he said.
BPBD Garut noted that the Bandung border route with Garut in the Talegong area is an area prone to landslides, because the hilly area has cliffs and cliffs.
Local governments have put up danger signs and appeals about the dangers of landslides as a warning to motorists to be careful when crossing the route, especially when it rains.
