Minister Of Industry Agus Opens Voice About Mass Layoffs In The TPT Industry

JAKARTA - The condition of Indonesian workers is still experiencing the threat of breaking off mass employment (PHK).

A number of business sectors, especially in the textile and textile product (TPT) industry, are still making adjustments to the unfavorable market situation.

Responding to this, the Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said, the number of layoffs in the sector was not too much and was still in a reasonable condition.

"There are very few layoffs, really, not many," said Minister of Industry Agus when met by media crews at the Ministry of Industry Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, May 10.

Agus assessed that there were layoffs in one or two companies because the company was diversifying factories.

"For example, the factory is moving in the downstream sector and has changed to the upstream sector. As a result, the company seems to be closing its factories, even though it is converting goods produced," he said.

So, according to Agus, the case of layoffs carried out by the company due to the impact of the decline in the TPT and footwear industries is not much. Agus even claimed that currently the absorption of labor in the manufacturing industry is the same as the pre-pandemic period.

"We will continue to provide incentives," he said.

Agus said that currently the TPT industry is no longer under pressure and has increased slightly due to the policies that have been implemented.

"In the past five months, the pressure (TPT industry) was extraordinary and was below 40, but then with the policies taken, we see now the pressure is not as heavy as it used to be," he said.

Even so, Agus emphasized, the industry is still not in the expansionary category.

"He (the TPT industry) has not been above 50, so it is still in the depressed category, but the pressure level is different," he concluded.
