OpenAI Contributes IDR 74.9 Billion To American Journalism Project In Partnership To Support Local News
OpenaI plans to donate $5 million to the American Journalism Project (AJP) in a partnership aimed at finding ways to support local news through artificial intelligence.
The partnership also provides AJP and related organizations up to $5 million in OpenAI credit to use popular technologies such as ChatGPT.
This move is part of a broader effort by OpenAI to cooperate with media organizations. Last week, the startup reached an agreement with news publisher, Associated Press (AP), to license part of the AP story archives and explore the use of generative artificial intelligence in the news.
Funds disbursed by AJP will help create a studio that allows local news outlets to try OpenAI technology. In addition, the funds will be distributed as grants to about 10 organizations in its portfolio to test and experiment with artificial intelligence applications.

"When partnering with OpenAI, we aim to promote ways where artificial intelligence can increase, not threaten, journalism," said Sarabeth Berman, CEO of AJP.
AJP is a venture philanthropy that grants local nonprofit news organizations to help maintain the sustainability of their editors. To date, AJP has managed to raise 139 million US dollars (Rp2 trillion) from local and national supporters to tackle the local news crisis in the United States, and has supported 41 non-profit local news organizations across the country.
