The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) recorded eruption activity in the form of eruptions of volcanic ash as high as approximately 500 meters above the peak of Mount Anak Krakatau in the waters of the Sunda Strait, Lampung Province,Head of the Mount Anak Monitoring Post Krakatau Andi Suardi said the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau occurred on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 14:34 WIB. The height of the eruption column was observed to be about 500 meters above the peak or about 657 meters above sea level."The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity to the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 46 mm and a duration of 80 seconds," he said when contacted from the West Coast, South Lampung, Antara, Tuesday, June 6 evening.
The closest settlement of Mount Anak Krakatau, is on Sebesi Island, which is 16.5 kilometers away.Andi appealed to the public and fishermen not to approach the Mount Anak Krakatau area at a radius of five kilometers."Currently Mount Anak Krakatau is at level III on standby with the recommendations of the community, fishermen, mountain climbers, not approaching the mountain with a radius of five kilometers," he said.
