The Death Penalty For The Smuggling Case Of 1.6 Tons Of Crystal Methamphetamine Dies Due To Illness In Batam Prison
One of the convicts of the smuggling of 1.6 tons of methamphetamine named Yao Fin Fan died. Yao who was detained in prison II A Batam died due to illness.
"Yes, that's right, one of the four convicts (a case of smuggling 1.6 tons of methamphetamine, ed.) died when he was taken to the hospital on May 28, 2023," said Batam Bawono Ika, Head of Correctional Institution (Kalapas) Class II A when contacted, Monday, May 29.
He explained that the prisoner concerned before he died had complained of illness while in a booth in Batam Prison.
Officers who knew about this, said Bawono, immediately took the victim to the clinic in prison to get first aid.
However, due to his illness getting worse, he was taken to the Embung Fatimah Regional General Hospital (RSUD).
"But before he got to the hospital, he was already dead," he said.

He said, from the doctor's statement, the prisoner concerned died of heart failure. Currently, the prison has notified the family and is waiting for their arrival from Taiwan.
"We are waiting for the family from their home country, the estimated May 30, 2023 will arrive in Batam tomorrow. Later, after the family comes accompanied by an embassy or consulate there, we can only hand it over," he said.
Yao Fin Fan is one of four death row convicts who smuggled 1.6 tons of methamphetamine in February 2018 in Indonesian territory.
The three colleagues who are still alive are serving a criminal period in Batam Prison. The third is Chen Hui, Chen Yi, and Chen Mei Sheng.
