Twitter Suddenly Recovers Millions of Tweets That Users Have Deleted, What's Up Elon Musk?
JAKARTA - Twitter seems to have created a new problem with its users, where tweets that have been deleted are suddenly restored to their accounts.
One of the victims of this Twitter bug is open source developer and security expert Richard "Dick" Morrell, who says some 34.000 of his tweets have resurfaced.
"Last November, I deleted all my Tweets. Every. I then ran Redact and deleted all my likes, media, and retweets. 38k tweets lost. … Woke up today to find 34k of them recovered by Twitter, which presumably backed up the server farm ," said Morrell in his Mastodon account, quoted from ZDNet, Tuesday, May 23.
Of course, Morrell wasn't happy about this. And in fact, as many as 400 people also told themselves that they were also victims of the bug.
Morrell estimates that one million tweets were also recovered that belonged to those closest to him. They also saw deleted tweets from November 2022 and reappeared earlier.

"I'm pretty sure they've restored cold storage because all of the recovered tweets have date-time characteristics," Morrell speculated on the bug.
Besides them, one of The Verge's journalists also felt the same way. Earlier this month, James Vincent believes he has deleted all of his less than 5.000 tweets. However, this morning he found Twitter had brought back some of his old tweets.
Earlier this year on May 8th I deleted all of my tweets, less than 5.000 of them. I know the exact day because I tweeted about it.
"I remember scanning my blank timeline with satisfaction before thinking, 'great, time to draw attention to myself'. But now they're back," Vincent reveals.
"You can see them by scrolling down my timeline past May 8th, with more coming if you select a tweet with a reply," he added.
Furthermore, when one of the users confirmed the cause to billionaire Elon Musk's social media, he got no answer, only a poop emoji.
According to Morrell, this cannot be taken lightly, Twitter could face penalties for violating the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
"This shows Twitter has absolutely no control over data privacy globally. It violates the GDPR on a global scale without defense," he stressed.
