Profile of Johanis Tanak
Johanis Tanak is a retired prosecutor who currently serves as deputy chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Johanis is a native of North Toraja. He was born on March 23, 1961. He is the son of Jusuf Ta'nak, a retired Indonesian National Police who comes from Sangkaropi, Sa'dan District. While his mother was named Thabita Sili who came from To'yasa Akung, Bangkelekila District.
He is an alumnus of the Faculty of Law, Hasanuddin University, Makassar, South Sulawesi in 1983. He received a doctorate in law after he continued his studies in 2019 at Airlangga University with the Law Study Program.
Before becoming the deputy head of the KPK, Johanis' career was indeed quite flashy, especially within the Attorney General's office. He has held several strategic positions in the judiciary. For example, Johanis was Deputy Head of the Riau High Prosecutor's Office (Wakejati) in 2014. Then in 2016, he became Head of the High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) of Central Sulawesi.
In fact, he has also sat in the chair of Director of State Administration at the Junior Attorney General and State Administration.
In 2019, Johanis took part in the selection of candidates for KPK leadership. But in the voting process in the DPR, he did not get any votes at all. He returned to take the fit and proper test in 2022. Then at the Plenary Meeting which was held on September 29, 2022, Johanis was declared fit to become a KPK official.
Johanis replaced Lili Pintauli's position as one of the KPK officials with a term of office of 2019 to 2023. During his tenure at the KPK, Johanis received scrutiny from the public.
