JAKARTA - Reportedly, Apple is trying to update the software algorithm on Apple WatchSeries 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. They will remove oxygen levels in the blood.

From a Briomberg report, Apple plans to change its saturation measurement system in their two smartwatch series. This needs to be done to avoid a ban on sales issued by the United States International Trade Commission (ITC).

Some time ago, Apple faced Masimo, a medical technology company, due to patent dispute issues. Masimo claims that Apple has violated two of its company's patents regarding its light-based blood oxygen monitoring system.

Since 2021, this patent dispute has continued to be debated until Apple was finally found guilty by ITC. According to the agency, Apple violated Masimo's blood oxygen measurement patent.

Currently, the patent dispute case between Apple and Masimo is being reviewed at the White House by United States President Joe Biden. If Biden does not side with Apple, the ITC decision will take effect and the two Apple Watch series may no longer be sold.

In fact, Apple has tried to comply with the rules issued by ITC. The tech company will stop selling Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 on their website on Thursday, December 21 and at retail stores on Sunday, December 24.

Meanwhile, if Apple actually overhauled the software in their two Apple Watch series, the company may have to go through a long process. What's more, this reshuffle isn't as simple as fiddling with the device.

From the findings of Engadget, Apple must submit an Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 updates to ITC to request approval. The verification process from ITC will take quite some time, could be three months or more than that.
