Types Of Content That Can Be Taken Down By Kominfo During The 2024 Election Campaign

YOGYAKARTA There are several types of content that Kominfo can take down during the 2024 General Election. The decline in content is done to maintain digital space during the campaign, considering that currently, Kominfo has found many fake news findings or hoaxes.

Quoted from the Kominfo press release, the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) is currently launching the Election Supervision Dec to monitor content circulating in the digital space. Through this desk, Kominfo will handle negative content related to the 2024 General Election.

Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said that the Election Supervision Dec will be operated with other parties, namely the Directorate General of Informatics Applications at the Ministry of Communication and Information, Bawaslu, and the National Police. One of the functions of the 2024 Election Desk is to anticipate the circulation of hoaxes in the 2024 General Election which is considered worrying.

Today the 2024 election campaign period officially started. However, throughout November 2023 alone, 39 hoax issues have been circulating related to the election. This means that more than one hoax issue related to the elections is circulating every day. This condition must of course be our common concern, because various negative content ranging from content containing hoaxes, to hate speech due to differences of choice, has been met a lot and of course threatens our unity, "explained Minister Budi, quoted from the official website of Kominfo.

Kominfo itself has found as many as 96 hoax issues related to the election, starting from July 17 to November 26, 2023. Dozens of hoax issues spread to 355 content.

"We have succeeded in taking down 290 content, while 65 other content is in process," he said.

Minister Bude explained that the Government will continue to provide space for the community to express their aspirations in the 2024 General Election series.

This digital space is a new means and we also maintain, care for, foster the quality of democracy. We provide space for people to speak up, convey their aspirations, because this is an election once every five years. But what can't be there are three, hoaxes, slander, and hate speech," he said.

In addition to launching the 2024 Election Supervision Dec, Kominfo released the 2024 Election Pocket Book which contains information about the 2024 General Election regarding guidelines for holding elections in the digital space and taking action against negative content related to the 2024 General Election.

The Director General of Informatics Applications of Kominfo, Semuel A. Pangerapan is familiarly called Sammy also explained that the contents of the 2024 Election Pocket Book contain various important information such as the timeline for organizing the 2024 General Election, the legal basis, negative content management during elections, what are the provisions for the implementation of elections on social media, what are the categories of negative content, handling channels and neutrality of State Civil Apparatus.

Kominfo, explained Sammy, is currently starting to monitor the digital space. Kominfo will monitor several content, especially those related to slander, hate speech, SARA, hoaxes, terrorism, information security violations, negative content recommended by sector supervisory agencies, disturb the public, violate socio-cultural values and violate ASN neutrality. Later, the action on content taken by Kominfo will be carried out according to procedures.

"If the violation is in the media that is not registered with the Press Council, we will freeze it, if it is registered, we will consult with the Press Council, if on social media we take it down," he said.
