JAKARTA - Meta Platforms Inc., the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, announced on Wednesday 4 October that it has begun rolling out generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools that can create content such as image backgrounds and written text variations for all advertisers.

The company began testing these tools last May, even giving access to a selected group of advertisers in a “test bed.” These tools will be available in Meta Ads Manager and the rollout will be complete next year.

The launch marks the Facebook and Instagram owner's first step in incorporating generative AI technology into its products to mine large amounts of past data to create new content such as prose, art and software code.

Last week, the company announced that businesses will soon be able to use AI for business messaging on Messenger and WhatsApp to interact with customers.

Meta's AI product portfolio includes their language model “Llama 2” and an AI chatbot called Meta AI that can generate text responses and high-resolution images.
