BYD Seal Officially Paving In Malaysia, Next Indonesia?

JAKARTA - BYD recorded impressive sales achievements in the Southeast Asian market during 2023. In Thailand, the manufacturer, which stands for 'Build Your Dreams', managed to become the leader of electric car (EV) sales. The market expansion was continued by entering Malaysia.

Most recently, BYD introduced its flagship electric sedan, Seal, to the Malaysian market. The car is scheduled to arrive at the local dealer network starting January 19.

It is known, BYD SEAL is one of seven nominations to win the prestigious European Car of the Year 2024 award which will be announced in February.

The design is interesting, equipped with U-shaped headlights floating, back lights in the form of water droplets, and curves combined, this car realizes a harmonious combination between shape and function.

Reporting from Carnewschina, Wednesday, January 10, the sedan, which will compete with Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6, uses an e-Platform 3.0 architecture with a dynamic and flowing fastback design. With a length of 4,800 mm, a width of 1,875 mm, a height of 1,460 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,920 mm, BYD Seal offers a wide space and can accommodate five passengers.

The interior of this car carries a minimalist theme with a modern touch. Equipped with a full 10.25-inch LCD instrument display, 15.6-inch touchscreen, and head-up display. BYD Seal is also equipped with a DyD DiLink 5.0 operating system together with ADAS DiPilot technology.

In Malaysia, BYD Seal will be available in three variants, namely RWD Standard Range, RWD Long Range, and AWD Four-wheel drive, each with different strengths and advantages.

The basic variant, RWD Standard Range, is equipped with a 150 kW electric motor and 310 Nm torque, capable of reaching 0-100 km/hour in 7.5 seconds, with a distance of 550 km thanks to a 61.4 kWh battery.

RWD Long Range has an electric motor of 230 kW and a torque of 360 Nm, acceleration of 0-100 km/hour in 5.9 seconds, and a distance of 700 km thanks to an 82.56 kWh battery.

The highest type, AWD Four-wheel drive, has a dual electric motor with a total power of 390 kW and a torque of 670 Nm. It can reach 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, with a distance of 650 km using the same battery as the RWD Long Range variant.

BYD Seal in Malaysia is valued at 180,000 ringgit or around Rp. 603 million. It is estimated that this car will also launch in Indonesia soon after being seen several times on the streets of Jakarta for testing.
