Go Hyun Jung Calls The Mask Girl Series A Portrait Of The Current Social Issues

JAKARTA - Go Hyun Jung returns to acting after two years through the Mask Girl series. The series adapted from this webtoon is one of Netflix's releases this year.

Mask Girl tells the story of Kim Mo Mi (Go Hyun Jung) is an employee who dreams of becoming a celebrity. Living in boredom, she finds something that turns her after becoming an online streamer as a Mask Girl.

Go Hyun Jung will play Kim Mo Mi as an adult who is also played by NANA and Lee Han Byeol. Although the title is Mask Girl, the actress mentions this series photographing social issues that are currently developing.

In my opinion, this series explores social issues and the root of the problem. It explores the problems that underlie a lot of social problems," Go Hyun Jung said at the Mask Girl press conference.

"The title of Mask Girl, but it's not about three masked women. I think it reflects the moments in everyone's life. Being good is about the struggle and how hard it is for someone to take off the masks they wear," he said.

Different from other titles, Mask Girl has one character played by three actresses. Go Hyun Jung feels that character selection is very important for the development of the story.

Sometimes we just accept that an actor has to play one role. But if we separate from the three different actors, we can focus on every level in the character's life. I am grateful to be able to accept this opportunity and look forward to it," explained Go Hyun Jung.

The actress explained that being in the industry for more than 30 years made her sure the audience had expectations with their project choices. She tries to show something new with Kim Mo Mi's character in Mask Girl.

"I'm trying to avoid an easy path and show my different side, and show Kim Mo Mi compared to Go Hyun Jung. That's what worries me before joining the project," explained Go Hyun Jung.

"Luckily I spoke to director Kim Yong Hoon and he guided me well. I felt he gave me "OK" easily but on the other hand, he also gave me directions before approving it, I could believe him," said Go Hyun Jung.

Mask Girl presents the character Kim Mo Mi in three versions. Go Hyun Jung will play the third version of Kim Mo Mi who is told to be a prisoner and try to get out of prison to do something.

The Mask Girl series will be available on Netflix starting today, Friday, August 18, 2023.
