Cianjur Prison Fails Drug Smuggling In Sandals

CIANJUR - Class IIB Prison in Cianjur, West Java, thwarted the efforts of inmates who wanted to smuggle packages of methamphetamine and illegal drugs into prisons by hiding them in sandals to trick officers.

Head of the Cianjur Muarif Prison Security Unit (KPLP) said the smuggling was revealed when an inmate on behalf of Rian entered the visiting room, but after receiving the guest he seemed nervous.

"His movements were suspicious, so the officers continued to monitor him, after receiving guests in Rian's visiting room, he did not return to his cell but went back and forth in front of the visiting room, so the officers' suspicions were getting stronger," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, April 2.

The officer also found irregularities when he noticed that the sandals worn before entering the besuk room were different from the one he was wearing when he left, so the officers immediately checked the perpetrators who were known to have changed sandals with the visitors.

The inmates, who had been languishing for a year at the Cianjur Prison, were taken to the security post for questioning, in front of Rian's officers admitted that they along with the other two inmates had exchanged sandals which were previously given by the visitor on behalf of their friend L.

"Officers had chased L, who after visiting immediately left the prison area, based on the suspect's confession, deliberately smuggled 10 grams of methamphetamine and 5 pills of illegal drugs into sandals to trick the officers," he said.

After getting two other names who were still inmates, the officers again found two sandals whose insides had been filled and closed again with glue, so at first glance it was not visible when it was modified to hide drug packages.
