7 Families Affected By Landslides, South OKU Regency Government Of South Sumatra Borrows Residents' Houses To Accommodate

SOUTH SUMSEL - The Regency Government (Pemkab) of South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) has prepared a refugee camp for victims affected by landslides in Batu Belang Jaya Village, Muaradua District.

Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the South OKU Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Heri Purnomo said heavy rains on Tuesday, February 20, caused landslides and almost buried residents' houses.

"There are as many as seven housing units in Batu Belang Jaya Village that almost were buried by landslides from the hill," he said in South OKU, South Sumatra, Thursday, February 22, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said the seven heads of families had to flee to safer places.

In this regard, his party has coordinated with the South OKU Perkim Service to borrow and use residential houses for refugees for a safe time.

"For the time being, the seven heads of families were forced to evacuate to residential houses belonging to the local government, because it was feared that landslides would get worse," he said.

While waiting for repairs, he said, his party closed the drain channel for rainwater leading to a ravine, so that landslides would not get worse and endanger the surrounding community.

Heri Purnomo again appealed to the public, especially those living in hilly areas, to continue to increase their vigilance in the face of the possibility of further disasters so as not to cause casualties.

"We also continue to monitor early warnings from the BMKG to be forwarded to the public to be more vigilant in dealing with potential natural disasters such as floods and landslides," he said.
