200 Residents Refuge Due To Flash Floods In Humbahas, North Sumatra

MEDAN - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Humbang Hasundutan (Humbahas) estimates that as many as 200 residents were displaced due to flash floods and landslides that hit the area in Simangulampe Village.

Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of BPBD Humbang Hasundutan Ricardo said the flood that occurred on Friday (1/12) night also caused dozens of residents' houses and other facilities to be heavily damaged.

"Meanwhile, the material losses collected in the rapid assessment include 32 heavily damaged houses, one place of worship, one school, and one auxiliary health center. Meanwhile, the displaced residents are estimated to reach 200 people," Ricardo said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 4.

Regarding the development of the handling of refugees, which amounted to 200 people from 50 heads of families (KK), he said all basic needs, including food, logistics, and other equipment, had been met.

"Refuges are centered in the Hall of Baktiraja District, a public kitchen has been established by the Social Service. Food needs and others have been handled properly," he said.

Previously, the Regent of Humbang Husundutan, Dosmar Banjarnahor, said that his party together with a joint team provided two posts for victims of flash floods and landslides.

"We provide two posts for refugees stationed at the Bakti Sub-district Office and at the Simangulampe HKBP Multipurpose Building," he said.

The command post placed in the Bakti sub-district head office accommodates as many as 80 people, while in the building it accommodates 60 people.

"After the post is provided, we will also provide clothing and food assistance for the refugees," said Dosmar.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) provides support for ready-to-use funds including logistics and equipment to deal with flash floods and landslides in the area.

"Seeing the amount of impact and need during the emergency response period, BNPB will provide support in the form of ready-to-use funds along with logistics and equipment, which will be given directly by the Head of BNPB on Monday (4/12)," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muharidi Jakarta, Sunday (3/12).

The details of the types of equipment that were handed over include refugee tents, family tents, basic necessities, blankets, mattresses, velbeds, lighting, electricity generators, and water pump machines along with the hoses.
