JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that there are three important things that must be the focus of APEC cooperation in dealing with the issue of climate change.

According to President Jokowi, the first focus is that APEC must realize a just energy transition, equal collaboration, mutual benefit, and in line with Bangkok's Documents on BCG Economics and a fair Energy Transitional Principle.

"In this regard, Indonesia has launched a collaboration in the development of the EV ecosystem (electric vehicle) between the government, BUMN, as well as the private sector, and ASEAN this year has also agreed on a commitment to develop the regional EV ecosystem," said Jokowi speaking at APEC Economic Leaders' Informal Dialogue and Working Lunch 2023 in San Francisco, United States (US), Thursday, November 16 US time

The second focus, Jokowi said that APEC must ensure access to every economy or member in affordable, sustainable, and modern green technology. He said this could be done through technology transfer, capacity building, and access to critical minerals.

"APEC must encourage cooperation that ensures the smooth running of supply chains, including investment in critical mineral development, and Indonesia wants to establish cooperation in the investment in nickel reserves for the EV battery ecosystem to ensure clean energy is available for all according to the principle of no one left behind," said Jokowi.

Untuk fokus ketiga, kata Jokowi, APEC harus mendorong mekanisme pembiayaan inovatif melalui sinergi dan kemitraan yang melibatkan partisipasi swasta serta dukungan lembaga keuangan internasional.

"The JETP Scheme (Just Energy Transition Partnership) and Energy Transition Mechanism can be a model that can expand its reach," he said.

Also accompanying the President on this occasion was Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
