JAKARTA - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said a new security mechanism is needed in Gaza, assessing that Israel has lost its common sense and must be stopped immediately, as the number of deaths in the enclave continues to increase.
President Erdogan said there was a need to establish new security mechanisms to pave the way for permanent peace between Israel-Hamas in Gaza, through cooperation with actors in the region.
"We declare that security cannot be achieved by shooting and dropping more bombs on Gaza, shedding more blood, killing more children, and destroying more hospitals, schools, mosques, churches and markets," President Erdogan said, citing CNN from Anadolu November 1.
"We believe that Israel, which seems to have lost its mind and is acting like an organization, must be stopped as soon as possible," he stressed.
President Erdogan said that if such a security mechanism is established, Turkey is ready to take responsibility.
The country's top priority, he added, is "preventing the massacre, which is already in its 25th day."
"Our goal is to get our region out of the vortex of this problem," said President Erdogan.
"The Israeli government, backed by unconditional support from Europe and America, has committed crimes against humanity in front of the eyes of the whole world for 25 days," stressed President Erdogan.
As of Tuesday, the death toll from Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip had reached 8,525 people, said the Ministry of Health in Gaza, quoted by Anadolu.
"The victims included 3,542 children and 2,187 women, while 21,543 people were injured," ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said at a press conference in Gaza City.
Furthermore, he said the ministry had received reports that around 2,000 people were still trapped under the rubble, including 1,100 children.

Al-Qudra added that 130 medics were killed and 25 ambulances destroyed in Israeli airstrikes since October 7.
