JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked ministers, heads of institutions, leaders of SOEs, and regional heads to come down to resolve the problem of the 2023 AD Eid homecoming flow/Idulfitri 1444 Hijriah.
"We hope that in addition to the Ministry of Transportation, the National Police, the TNI, I ask BUMN, I ask that governors, regents, mayors actually go down to see the problem in detail," Jokowi said at the 2023 Eid Homecoming Limited Meeting at Merak Port, Cilegon, Banten, Antara, Tuesday, April 11.
Jokowi said central and regional government officials need to go directly to the field to find the problem of going home factually and immediately resolve the problem.
This is because in the 2023 Lebaran homecoming flow there are various challenges caused by a 45 percent increase in the number of travelers to 123 million people compared to 2022 which amounted to 86 million people.
"I can't imagine that from 86 million jumping to 123 million (people) it's not an easy management. It needs preparation, it needs a good planning design," said Jokowi.
At last year's Lebaran homecoming, President Jokowi reminded that there are problems with density and lack of ship capacity at Merak Port, as well as congestion on toll roads that are facilities for homecoming infrastructure.
"Therefore, in detail, those who work in the field must really see so that the improvement from management last year had to be better homecoming, and I really appreciate what has been done at Merak Port," said Jokowi.
Jokowi appreciated the addition of the dock port at Merak Port so that it significantly increased passenger capacity.
"There are additional dock ports of two, and there is also a significant increase in capacity. The capacity is from 34 thousand to 49 thousand (passengers). This is a fairly large number jump," he said.
In addition, said Jokowi, at Merak Port a special port for motorcycles, special ports for cars and small vehicles, as well as special ports for heavy vehicles.
"I think management is very good, but once again we will see what the management will do in the field," said Jokowi.
Then, for improvements on toll roads, Jokowi said that ministries and related non-ministerial institutions have added rest areas to reduce concentration of travelers somewhere.
"I see that the number of'rest areas' which last year was very disturbing has also been increased," said Jokowi.
