JAKARTA - The second batch of the Bangkit program, a program from Google has today completed more than 700 hours of courses for each student which has lasted for six months in the country.
The Bangkit program itself is designed to prepare students with technology skills and certifications. This year, 2,250 students from 250 universities have completed course materials for one semester, with a study weight equivalent to 20 credits.
"We are very proud of all the students of this program, of whom 30 percent are women and 70 percent are from small towns in rural areas and areas from all over Indonesia", said Managing Director of Google Indonesia, Randy Jusuf at the 2021 Bangkit Graduation event which was held virtually, Thursday 15 July.
Google is also working with the government and the university sector to develop the Bangkit curriculum and launch it through the Merdeka Campus program. This year's pass rate is 80 percent, higher than 2020 when Bangkit was first launched with only 300 students.
“This graduation rate is extraordinary and much higher than last year. Moreover, this year's curriculum is also much more demanding than last year's", said William Florance, Education Program Lead at Google for the Asia Pacific region.
All participants of the Bangkit program are required to complete a group final project related to one of the strategic priorities stated in the National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2020 to 2024.

It is known that the RPJPN 2020 to 2024 has mainstreamed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence. 483 teams are working on various projects, some of which are to help the deaf, improve the quality of home care, and protect women and children.
The top 15 teams were selected from other teams and selected by a panel of expert judges from academia, technology, and business. They will receive $5,000 in capital from Google, and if they pass an assessment by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, get another $5,000 in funding to complete the project.
“While students must choose one of three technical learning paths, they must all push themselves to get out of their comfort zone and learn skills that can support career readiness such as persuasive leadership, critical thinking, time management, communication, and teamwork, William said.
The one-month virtual job fair for graduates will start on July 26. Employment providers who are members of the Bangkit Recruitment Consortium including Wings Group, Bank BTPN, Fazz Financial, Kalbe Farma, Tokopedia, Gojek, Ruangguru, and many more, will prioritize these new graduates in hundreds of job vacancies and internship opportunities.
By the Merdeka Campus program from the Ministry of Education and Culture, Minister Nadiem Makarim hopes that more students can participate in the Bangkit program, especially from outside Java, to create more technology-based solutions for people throughout Indonesia.
"Technology-based innovation will make a big leap and make Indonesia a formidable global player in the future", explained Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Nadiem Makarim.
Since last year, 2,469 students have graduated from this program. Furthermore, Google will start accepting registrations for the Revive 2022 program sometime later this year.
