JAKARTA - The National Sports Week (PON) is only 70 days away. The Central Government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) ensures that several world-class match venues are ready for use.

The government's commitment in terms of venues was explained by the Director-General of Human Settlements, Ministry of PUPR, Ir. Diana Kusumastuti, M.T., at the virtual discussion of the Merdeka Barat 9 Forum (FMB9) on Saturday.

The Director-General explained that all venues had been completed 100 percent on time and were ready to be used for the upcoming PON. He advised the people of Papua to take good care of it.

"What has been built by the Central Government, we must protect it together because this is a very useful asset for eastern Indonesia", Diana said in a discussion entitled PON XX Papua World-Class Venue.

The sports venues are spread across four cluster areas, namely Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Mimika Regency, and Merauke Regency. The majority of these venues have international standards and are officially certified according to the parent world organization of each sport.

In fact, there are also venues in Papua that are claimed to be the best in Indonesia, one of which is the Lukas Enembe Stadium which is the main venue for the Papua PON.

The stadium, which has a capacity of more than 40,000 spectators, has international standards so that it can be used for Olympic-class sports activities.

The football field in it complies with FIFA standards, as well as the IAAF-certified athletic track, and the supporting facilities are also imported directly from abroad.

The world-class venue will welcome athletes who compete and be a testament to the readiness of the Papua Province to host the XX Papua PON 2021.

The venue is proof of Papua's readiness to host the 2021 PON which will be held in Papua on 2-15 October 2021.

At PON Papua, athletes from 34 provinces in Indonesia will compete in 37 sports and 56 sports disciplines.
