JAKARTA - The Government of Ciamis Regency, West Java has allowed the use of school buildings that are not for teaching and learning activities due to the pandemic, to be used as centers for handling COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms in each sub-district so that they can be handled properly.
"Currently schools are not being used because learning is done online and using government buildings that are representative and supportive for self-isolation," said Ciamis Regent Herdiat Sunarya during a coordination meeting with the sub-district head regarding the handling of COVID-19 in Ciamis, as reported by Antara, Friday, July 23.
He said cases of the spread of COVID-19 were still occurring in Ciamis, so serious treatment was needed by preparing a proper isolation place for optimal medical services.
According to him, the implementation of self-isolation at the village level to RT/RW is less effective and efficient, so a centralized isolation place is needed at the sub-district level.
"After looking at it from various angles, it turns out that the implementation of isoman (self-isolation) at the village level is in fact less effective, both in terms of supervision, control and in terms of assistance," he said.

Regarding facilities, such as beds, he said, they would be provided by borrowing from each community health center or sub-district health center (pustu) in each sub-district.
He hopes that this step can increase the availability of beds in each sub-district at least 20 to 30 beds for COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms.
"The centralized isolation area is reserved only for confirmed positive patients with mild symptoms," he said.
The Regional Secretary for the Ciamis Regency Government, added that the school that will be used as a place for self-isolation is a junior high school building that has more complete facilities and infrastructure than an elementary school.
"Why choose junior high school because in terms of more complete facilities, such as Health Unit, toilets, and sports facilities, related to licensing will be supported by the head of the Education Office," he said.
