The West Java Food and Livestock Security Service (DKPP) deployed a team to two of the largest pig farm centers in West Java, namely Kuningan Regency and Bogor Regency as a measure to prevent African swine flu cases (Africanswinefever/ASF) from spreading to humans.

"We ensure that until now there have been no cases of African swine flu," said Head of Veterinary Animal Health and Public Health DKPP West Java Province Suprijanto as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 23.

According to him, based on the inspection of the team deployed to the field, his party ensured that there were no reports of African swine flu in the two areas of the center.

So far, African swine flu cases are still found outside Java, such as Riau and South Sulawesi.

"There are not many for West Java, only certain areas have a lot of pigs, in Kuningan and Mount Sindur Bogor, the focus is there," he said.

Suprijanto confirmed that the case of African swine flu did not exist on the island of Java, this result was known from his communication with the veterinary apparatus in Yogyakarta.

"There are no friends there either," he said.

He said from the results of the examination, his party confirmed that there were no reports of African swine flu in the two central areas. So far, the cases are still found outside Java, such as Riau and Sulawesi.

Although there is no case, his party has appealed to pigholders in West Java to be vigilant, in addition, his party has also detected animal traffic at a number of points to increase supervision.

Kuningan and Bogor districts have been supplying pigs for the benefit of slaughtering animals to Jakarta and Bandung City.

Suprijanto ensured that despite supplying, the number of pigs sent to slaughterhouses was relatively small.

"The one from Kuningan goes to the RPH of pigs in Bandung City at least 15 to 20 heads per day, not much," he said.

The African swine fever virus in Indonesia was first identified in Medan, North Sumatra in 2019, which later spread to a number of areas in Indonesia such as NTT, Bali, Java, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi.

In April 2023, cases were again found on the Island of the Moon, Batam, Riau Islands, which is the only area that sends live pigs outside Indonesia.
