副大統領は閣議でエビ養殖業者の問題を議論する

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin will convey the problems faced by shrimp farmers regarding licensing and investment in cabinet meetings.

This was conveyed by the Vice President when he received the Chairperson of the Shrimp Club Indonesia Haris Muhtadi, who is an organization of Indonesian shrimp farmers in Jakarta, Monday, May 8.

"Two things (the issue of shrimp farmers) will be found a solution by the Vice President and will be presented in a cabinet meeting," said Vice President Masduki Baidlowi spokesman as reported by ANTARA.

Masduki said that in a meeting with the shrimp farmers organization, the problem faced by shrimp farmers was discussed, namely the first regarding licensing.

According to him, shrimp farmers must go through at least 21 types of licensing that must be met which includes five ministries.

"This is very troublesome. So there are the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, the Ministry of PUPR, the Ministry of Home Affairs, there is an ESDM, and another ministry even has a permit in the regions (which must be fulfilled)," said Masduki.

He said shrimp is a prima donna export for Indonesia. The export value of the fishery sector reaches five billion US dollars, of which 40 percent are donated by shrimp.

"And this Indonesian shrimp (export) is one of the top five (in the world). Number one Ecuador, second India, third Vietnam, fourth Indonesia, fifth Thailand, so this is something very strategic to convey to the Vice President and Vice President in discussions about solutions," he said.

He said the Vice President would try to encourage licensing to be summarized.

The second problem is related to investment. According to reports, said Masduki, many shrimp farmers have invested, but it is made difficult in the field.

"That's what we will try to discuss in the upcoming cabinet meeting," he said.
