JAKARTA - On Tuesday, November 14, Google was fined 15 million rubles (IDR 2.5 billion) for repeatedly refusing to keep Russian user data on servers inside Russia. This was announced by a court in Moscow.

Russia has repeatedly clashed with foreign technology companies over content, censorship, data and local representations in the heated dispute after Moscow sent armed forces to Ukraine in February 2022.

Google's subsidiary in Russia has come under pressure in the country for failing to remove content Moscow deems illegal and restricting access to some Russian media on YouTube.

The giant technology unit in Russia filed for bankruptcy in the summer of 2022 after authorities confiscated its bank accounts, making it impossible to pay employees and vendors.

Although the Kremlin has banned several platforms including Twitter and Facebook, it has not blocked access to Google services, and its search engine and YouTube platform, both free, continues to operate. Google has yet to comment on the report.
