JAKARTA - Data from Statista reveals that Indonesia is the fastest growing smartphone market in Southeast Asia, with more than 80 percent of its population owning smartphones.

Google Trends data in Indonesia shows a Folding HP' search on YouTube and Google growing by more than 56 percent, with 1 in 2 Indonesians relying on Google and YouTube as the main channel for information.

Seeing this increasing trend, this year Google conducted a consumer survey which found that 62 percent of respondents wanted a foldable smartphone when they would buy a new smartphone.

The survey conducted on 1,514 respondents aged 18 55 years in various provinces in Indonesia stated that the main factor that encourages the attractiveness of folding smartphones for Indonesians compared to ordinary smartphones is innovation (7 out of 10 people).

However, the biggest factor is that folding smartphones are seen as products that can further increase productivity, lifestyle, and comfort.

"Indonesian people have a high interest in exploring new technological innovations, but they also prioritize productivity and comfort, what's more, on average, Indonesians use smartphones for more than 5.7 hours every day," said Stephanie Elizabeth, Tech Industry Lead, Google Indonesia.

Nearly 9 out of 10 respondents agreed that the foldable smartphone of the flip' model offers better comfort and lifestyle benefits than ordinary smartphones.

The most popular reasons Indonesians consider buying folding smartphones are factors such as portability, the ease of making video calls (without the need to hold a smartphone), and to create content; and viewed as a stylish accessory.

Meanwhile, folding smartphones whose models such as books' are considered superior in their productivity features, where larger screens make it easier for users to use them to work, combined with PC tablets, or better multitasking capabilities than regular smartphones.

Stephanie is sure, with so many exposures to the benefits of foldable devices on YouTube and Google, it also makes them imagine what these products can do, and makes them more interested in these premium smartphones.
