JAKARTA - One of Twitter's rival open source decentralized social networks, Mastodon announced that he would plan to sell the company's goods or merchandise as an effort to develop it.

Instead of taking steps to monetize the platform at subscription fees like many other social media, Mastodon chose different steps, according to a survey that had been conducted.

"When we initially surveyed you on Mastodon to see what kind of request there was for merch, more than 6,700 of you said you would buy something," Mastodon CEO Eugen Rochko announced on his official blog, quoted Friday, July 28.

So, Mastodon will present 250 merchandise in the form of t-shirts, mug, enamel pins, and stickers, at the first launch. It was also stated that the design of all the merchandise was made by an artist named Dopatwo. For the production of its belongings, Mastodon partnered with FRESH Merch.

"Despite our impressive achievements in building a new social network, Mastodon is a non-profit organization with a very small team and limited resources the core team is only two developers," he said.

They said that 100 percent of the revenue after closing production costs would go to the company to help them increase more resources in developing its decentralized social media software.

Currently, Mastodon admits that he has just completed a photo shoot of the product. Chances are, Mastodon merchandise will be launched in the next few weeks.

To be given a notification when merchandise is officially available, you can subscribe to Mastodon's streaming list from the official website.
