JAKARTA - YouTube is reportedly testing a feature that can speed up video playback up to 2x. However, only Premium customers can try out this experimental feature.

According to the YouTube experimental page, users can long press video players to set the playback speed to 2x.

Previously, to speed up video playback in the mobile app, users had to click on the three-dot menu, select the playback speed and various options will appear that users can choose from.

Similar steps also apply on mobile and desktop webs. With this new feature, users are making it easier to speed up their video playback, such as in the TikTok application.

The trial of the 2x speed feature is available until August 13, as quoted from The Verge, Tuesday, July 18. Furthermore, YouTube is also reportedly working on another new feature dubbed Stable Volume.

One Reddit user managed to find the new setting, designed to flatten the volume across YouTube videos, some of which may have been found harder than others.

The company confirmed it is testing this feature to its users globally, "We are testing a new YouTube control feature that allows for more consistent sound for users while watching videos," a YouTube spokesperson told TechCrunch.

"This experiment is global and across mobile devices," he added.
