JAKARTA - The leading contemporary art museum in Paris, Centre Pompidou, announced on February 10 a permanent exhibition targeting the intersection between art and blockchain represented by non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

According to an announcement on February 10, the Centre will feature NFTs from more than 16 digital artists around the world, including popular collections such as CryptoPunk #110 and Autoglyph #25, both of which were donated to the Centre Pompidou.

Xavier Rey, director of the French National Museum of Art, notes that the Centre Pompidou "continues its interest in digital art, in relation to blockchain."

"Web3 is innovative territory that artists have now taken over to create original and bold work, and this collection reinforces our support for artists in their conquest of new ways of expression, which are the foundation of modern art," said Rey, as quoted Cointelegraph.

The exhibition, scheduled for this spring, is NFT's first appearance at the internationally renowned Centre Pompidou, and is home to masterpieces by other artists such as Vassily Kandinsky, Frida Kahlo and Henri Matisse.

NFT creator Yuga Labs, which owns the intellectual property (IP) rights to CryptoPunks since March 2022, says the initiative is part of a legacy project that delivers Punk to leading arts institutions around the world. The company has awarded CryptoPunk #305 to the Miami Institute of Contemporary Art.

"Seeing CryptoPunk #110 displayed at the Centre Pompidou, arguably the world's foremost museum of contemporary art, is a major moment for the Web3 and NFT ecosystems, and we are honored to help spur this cultural conversation," said Greg Solano, founder of Yuga Labs.

NFTs are digital assets that represent real-world objects such as art, music, game items and videos. Based on distributed ledger technology, NFTs can serve as an authentication method for purchasers of unique items, proving aspects such as ownership.
