JAKARTA - Instagram has revamped its application interface (UI) with a few minor changes to the layout, where the Shopping or Shop tab is now removed from the Home page.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri through his social network explained, the navigation bar at the bottom of the application will now have a Create tab in the middle for creating new posts, while the Reels button shifts to the right, while the Shop tab will disappear.

However, that doesn't mean that the Shop feature has completely disappeared from the application, it will only run in all parts of Instagram, such as in Feeds, Reels, Stories, and ads.

It's just that there won't be a dedicated tab for the Shop. These features typically offer targeted recommendations to encourage users to shop beyond the usual mid-feed offerings.

This change comes as no surprise, as several rumors were mentioned in September last year, when Instagram started testing the new design. And now it's come true.

At that time, Instagram also reportedly plans to reduce many of its shopping features. The company informed its employees that it would shift its efforts from e-commerce to the advertising business, which is Meta's main source of income.

Citing Engadget, Tuesday, January 10, in a short video announcing the change, Mosseri characterizes the refresh as an attempt to simplify services and focus on connecting people to the things they love.

Presumably, Mosseri has remembered that this is a social network, not an e-commerce. Interestingly, the Shop tab was introduced along with the Reels tab during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Previously, Instagram said it believed more people would be willing to buy online and the Shop tab would be a great opportunity for small businesses to reach new customers. While this is true, the Shop tab is definitely not as popular as the Reels tab. For information, all of these changes will be present in February.
