JAKARTA - Last September, Fitbit announced their account transition where they will fully embrace Google accounts in their application and website, after Google successfully acquired Fitbit in 2021.

But before that change occurs, according to a notification found by Android police and 9to5google, Fitbit will remove the option to sign in to the Fitbit website (Fitbit.com) using Google credentials.

"We're removing the option to sign in to your account on fitbit.com with your Google credentials in favor of an even better experience coming soon," the notification said.

It's not certain when the change will go into effect, but starting in 2023 the company plans to enable Fitbit use with Google accounts.

Where Google Accounts on Fitbit will support a number of benefits for Fitbit users, including a single login for Fitbit, access to other Google services, and features from Google on Fitbit.

Based on Fitbit's help page, the company explains that if you want to use a Fitbit app or device, you must have a Fitbit account. Next, you can use your Fitbit account to sign in to the Fitbit app and connect devices to sync data to your account.

Meanwhile, a Google account will only give you access to Google services, including Gmail, Drive, Maps, YouTube, and others, not to log in to the Fitbit application.

This change is for the Fitbit account service replaced by the standard Google Account, simplifying how to sign in to the service so that there will no longer be two separate systems.

A Google account will be required to access the new features and set up the device, although users can keep their existing Fitbit accounts until 2025.

When this consolidation rolls out, you must "agree to transfer your Fitbit user data from Fitbit to Google." There is no timeline for when this will happen.
