Not Twitter, BeReal Wins App of the Year at the Apple App Store This Year

JAKARTA - The list of winners of this year's App Store awards has been announced by Apple, along with the top charts for the most downloaded apps and games in the free and paid categories.

The award covers apps for all the platforms the company owns, including iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac and Apple TV.

Apple says that in 2022, social networking app BeReal won app of the year award for iPhone, while note-taking app GoodNotes 5 won the crown for best iPad app.

Meanwhile, MacFamilyTree 10 from Synium Software GmbH, a visual family tree exploration application, was listed as the top Mac application this year.

Televisa Univision Interactive's Vix streaming service was awarded the top Apple TV app for featuring a Spanish story and Gentler Streak from Gentler Stories, a sports and fitness tracker, was awarded the best Apple Watch app of the year.

The game category on iPhone was won by Apex Legends Mobile from Electronic Arts while Moncage from XD Network Inc won the top game title on iPad.

Other game winners include Inscription from Devolver for Mac, El Hijo from HandyGames for Apple TV and Wylde Flowers from Studio Drydock for Apple Arcade. League of Legends Esports Manager from Shenzhen Tencent Tianyou Technology won the China App Store app of the year.

“This year's App Store Award winner reimagines our experience with apps by presenting a fresh, thoughtful, and genuine perspective,” said Apple CEO, Tim Cook, in a statement.

"From self-taught solo creators to international teams spanning the globe, these entrepreneurs make a meaningful impact, and represent the way apps and games impact our communities and lives," he added.

Apple also released the most downloaded apps and games across all free and paid categories for the year. Here are the top apps quoted from TechCrunch, Wednesday, November 30.
