Snap Inc Employees are Asked To Work Again At Office Four Days A Week, Layoffs Only 20 Percent

JAKARTA - After working from home for a long time (work from home), Snap Inc. employees will return to work from the office 80% of their total working hours.

Monday, November 28, Snap Inc will require employees to work from their offices, 4 days a week, starting in late February.

"After working remotely for so long, we are excited to be bringing everyone together next year with our new 80/20 hybrid model," a spokesperson for the social media platform said in an emailed statement.

Bloomberg News was first to report on the development and said the owner of photo messaging app Snapchat had asked employees to be in the office four days a week since February.

Santa Monica, California-based Snap said last August it would lay off 20% of all staff and halt projects to cut costs amid a deteriorating economy.

The tech industry was among the first to allow employees to work from home when COVID-19 hit the United States in 2020. But the extent to which tech companies are embracing permanent remote work is now different.

Last month, Uber ride-hailing service asked its employees to work from the office twice a week. Earlier this month, Elon Musk informed Twitter employees that remote work would no longer be allowed and they were expected to be in the office at least 40 hours per week.

Reuters previously reported citing a memo written by Snap Chief Executive Officer Evan Spiegel that said that despite reducing spending in some areas, the company must now "deal with the consequences of lower revenue growth and adapt to the market environment".
