JAKARTA - Twitter must undo the "damage" it did to former US President Donald Trump with its account cancellation policy. This was stated by the Mexican President on Monday, October 31 as he expressed hope that new Twitter owner Elon Musk would create a censorship board on the social media platform.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's remarks come just days before the US midterm elections in which Republicans are expected to make a congressional victory against Democrats, from President Joe Biden.

Speaking at a regular news conference, Lopez Obrador urged Tesla Inc CEO Elon Musk to "repair the damage caused by the cancellation of President Trump's account" and to free Twitter of what he called "conservative control."

Lopez Obrador previously backed Musk's takeover of Twitter, and pushed him to "clean up" the social network.

In 2021, the Mexican leader also berated Meta Platform Inc Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg for blocking Trump's Facebook account following the January 6, 2021, storming of the US Capitol by Trump supporters.

Musk completed his $44 billion purchase of Twitter last week and has begun implementing sweeping changes, including firing top executives and plans to improve content moderation.

While Trump also said he was "very pleased that Twitter is now in sane hands," he has not disclosed whether he will return to the site.

Trump himself was banned from Twitter on charges of inciting violence during the 2021 attacks on the US Capitol.
