Slovak Parliament Suspends Hearing Over Cyber Attack Incident

JAKARTA - The Slovak parliament adjourned its session on Thursday, October 27 after an alleged cyber attack that brought down its IT system.

"We have identified a cybersecurity incident. There is a signal coming from some point that interferes with the system, our computers, we can't even serve MPs in our cafeteria," Slovak Parliament Speaker Boris Kollar told reporters in a televised briefing.

"We are not going to vote today. We have to find out where the attack hit, or whether it was damaged," he said.

Local media reported that the parliamentary session, with 75 bills on the agenda, would be held again on November 8.

In neighboring Poland, the website of the upper house of parliament, the Senate, was also down last Thursday due to a hacker attack.

The European Commission last week proposed increasing measures to protect its critical infrastructure, including digital and energy grids, as EU countries help Ukraine defend against a Russian invasion. They worry that this is the impact of the feud between Russia and Ukraine.
