JAKARTA – A racial incident that is thought to be due to a hack occurred in the Apple News application from Fast Company. Someone sent an Apple News notice from Fast Company containing a racial slur and an invitation to certain sexual acts. They also posted similar content to the outlet's website, which indicated the CMS or its account had been compromised.

Apple and Fast Company have not commented on the incident, and it's not clear exactly how many people received the blast. However, a look at posts on social media reveals that the explosion was widespread. Vox Media staff who don't subscribe to Fast Company said the post also appeared on their phones as well.

The Verge reports having seen attempts by hackers to take over Twitter feeds, YouTube channels, press releases, and occasionally damage websites. But the takeover of Apple News notifications might be a first.

As startup executive Zack Wynegar notes, while the messages sent are indecent and offensive, someone with such access could well take another route to manipulate the stock market or crypto prices. This is similar to last year's Walmart Litecoin crypto scam.
