JAKARTA - Electric car manufacturer Tesla has just announced that the Shanghai Gigafactory has just produced its one millionth electric car.

The news was delivered directly by the big boss of Tesla, Elon Musk on Twitter. He also said that Tesla's cars made at the Shanghai factory had already reached three million.

"Congratulations Giga Shanghai on making the millionth car! Total Tesla made now more than 3 million," Musk wrote on Twitter.

Citing from Electrek, last year, Elon Musk revealed that the Shanghai Gigafactory had surpassed the Fremont Plant in production capacity, he was also making the Chinese factory a new major export hub.

The Shanghai Gigafactory is a significant success story for Tesla. The plant began its initial construction in December 2018 and started Tesla production one year later.

This means that in just two years, the factory was able to produce Tesla's largest and most productive electric vehicle.

By 2021, the Shanghai factory's annual production rate is more than 800.000 vehicles, up to now production has reached more than three million.

Whereas, Tesla's first factory, Fremont announced that it was producing its 2 millionth electric car just a few weeks earlier.

The automaker aims to increase its production capacity to 20 million cars per year by the end of the decade.

With the Shanghai Gigafactory's extremely high productivity, it's possible Tesla will invest more in China for the purpose.

The Shanghai Gigafactory currently only produces Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, but the plant is expected to expand to more vehicles next year.
