JAKARTA - Former US President Barack Obama's media company Higher Ground has signed a multi-year contract with Amazon Inc's Audible to create original audio content. This comes after they ended three years of a similar partnership with Spotify.

The terms of the agreement announced on Tuesday, June 21 were not made public. But the deal gives Audible the right to preview new material before anyone else in the industry gains access to it.

Higher Ground signed its first podcast deal with Spotify in 2019 and went on to create shows like "The Michelle Obama Podcast" and "Born in the USA", a series of conversations between former US President Barack Obama and rock musician Bruce Springsteen.

But the Swedish audio-streaming platform has refused to renew its deal with Higher Ground, prompting Obama to seek new partners, Bloomberg News reported in April.

The report says Higher Ground is in talks with other distributors about deals worth tens of millions of dollars. This deal, according to Reuters, is one of the most lucrative contracts in the podcasting business today.
