MADIUN - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 7 Madiun, East Java, recorded that as of early September 2023, 45 accidents occurred at level crossings, asking all parties to be more concerned and obey traffic safety regulations when crossing a level crossing.

"Until early September 2023, there have been 45 accidents at railroad crossings and railway lines. This shows the low level of community discipline in traffic at a railroad crossing," said Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 7 Madiun Supriyanto while conducting safety socialization at the 138 level crossing at Madiun Station, Saturday (16/9).

Supriyanto regretted the behavior of people who still did not obey traffic signs that could harm themselves or others.

As of early September 2023, of the 45 accidents, there were 21 people who died, 5 people were seriously injured, and 4 people were slightly injured in accidents at level crossings and railway lines.

Accidents not only occur at illegal level crossings, but also occur even though there is already a crossing gate. Of the 45 incidents, as many as 11 accidents occurred that were not guarded, 19 accidents occurred at the guarded crossing, and 15 incidents on the railway line.

"We always appeal to all road users to jointly obey the existing signs and be more vigilant when crossing a railroad crossing," he said as quoted by Antara.

To reduce accidents at crossings and railway lines, his party held socialization of safety at crossings in a series of commemorating the 53rd National Transportation Day.

Socialization of driving safety at a level crossing this time involved KA lovers and students from the Indonesian Railway Polytechnic Madiun.

The socialization activity at the 138 level crossing is located at Madiun Station and is cross section number 3 of Kalgen Serut Village, Jiwan District, Madiun Regency.

The socialization involved 40 PPI Madiun students and 20 train lovers, besides that, they also participated in workers from PT KAI Daop 7 Madiun.

"This safety socialization is aimed at increasing public awareness in obeying and understanding traffic rules at level crossings such as STOP signs, which require motorists to pause for a moment before crossing a level crossing, so hopefully there will be no more accidents at level crossings," he said.
