JAKARTA - The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) released wholesale sales data from various manufacturers, including BMW, which recorded positive results during the first ten months of this year in Indonesia.

Based on wholesale sales data, BMW managed to sell 3,608 vehicles from January to October 2023, an increase of 45 percent compared to the same period last year which reached 2,489 units.

Jodie O'tania, Director of Communications BMW Group Indonesia, stated that this positive achievement can be attributable to superior products and premium services offered to consumers.

"BMW Indonesia continues to innovate by presenting a series of the latest products and providing premium offers and services to customers. Our increase in sales this year was driven by these things," said Jodie when contacted by VOI on Friday, November 17.

He added that BMW sales were supported by increased demand for electric vehicles, particularly BMW iX, which is one of the best-selling premium electric vehicles (EV) in Indonesia.

The series of electric vehicles also boosted sales, such as BMW iX, which is now the best-selling premium electric vehicle in Indonesia with a market share of 42%, said Jodie.

According to data from Gaikindo, BMW iX xDrive40, which was introduced in March, managed to sell as many as 430 units as of October and dominate the premium-class EV market in Indonesia.

In addition to iX, two other premium EV models have also recorded significant sales in the last ten months, namely the RZ 450+ Lexus as many as 167 units and the BMW i7 xDrive60 as many as 90 units.

For specifications, BMW iX is equipped with an electric motor that produces 326 dk of power and 630 Nm of torque. With this power, BMW's latest SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) is capable of reaching a speed of 0-100 km/h within 6.1 seconds with a maximum speed of 200 km/hour.

The battery embedded in BMW iX is a Lithium-ion with a capacity of 76.6 kWh, giving a range of about 390 km in full battery condition.

BMW iX xDrive40 Sport, the single variant offered in the Indonesian market, is sold for around Rp. 2.43 billion OTR Jakarta.
