Tesla Again Faces Steering System Problems At 280 Thousand Model 3 And Model Y Units

JAKARTA - US electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla is likely to face problems again in some of its vehicles. US auto safety regulators have opened investigations into Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles.

The number of vehicles being investigated reached around 280,000 units due to reports of loss of steering control and power steering.

Quoted from Reuters on Tuesday, August 1, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began initial evaluation after receiving 12 complaints from Tesla Model 3 and Model Y owners in 2023.

The investigation began after reports that a Model 3 user complained about the wheel of a car that felt jammed and caused the car to get out of the lane and hit a tree in May.

Another complaint came from a driver in Alpharetta, Georgia, USA, who reported that his Tesla Model Y had malfunctions on the steering system last June. This happened just two weeks after the purchase from the dealers.

Other users reported that the recently purchased Tesla Model Y less than a month earlier in April also had problems, with wheels blowing hard to the right, and the screen warning about problems with the steering system.

NHTSA has taken the first steps in an official investigation to determine whether this issue could pose a serious safety risk. Further review is needed before a decision on a possible recall of vehicles affected by the circulation.

This isn't the first time Tesla's steering system has had a problem this year. In June, Tesla recalled 137 units of Model Y due to a sudden steering wheel due to concessions to steering wheel ties.

Not only Model Y, a similar problem with a loose steering wheel previously also occurred in Model 3 in May 2020. A man in England experienced an incident where his Tesla Model 3 steering took off after a month since the purchase.
