Yovie Widianto Invites Regional Musicians To Work Together To Voice Local Music Problems

JAKARTA - Yovie Widianto as Chairman of the Federation of Indonesian Musician Unions (FESMI) expressed his hope that musicians in various regions would work hand in hand in dealing with various things that were considered detrimental to musicians.

As FESMI has done, musicians can form Indonesian Musician Unions (SMI) in their respective regions. So far there are SMI DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Banten, North Sumatra and East Kalimantan.

"By not dividing it, we from FESMI invite if we can join. We can work hand in hand to voice what are domestic problems in each region," said Yovie Widianto in Senayan, Monday, November 6.

"So, for example, friends in East Java, yes in East Java. All of them already have branches in the Indonesian Musician Union," he continued.

Yovie also hopes that musicians from the regions who do not yet have SMI, will create their own unions. According to him, it would be easier to deal with problems if musicians wanted to work together.

"If there are friends who don't have a union yet, oh it turns out that Papua doesn't exist yet, so please form a Musician Union. It can be submitted directly to the website of FESMI," said Yovie.

"We are working together on how to get good things for the Indonesian music ecosystem," he added.

Recently, FESMI in collaboration with the Indonesian Music Award Foundation (YAMI) encouraged musicians to get protection by registering as BPJS Employment participants.

Through this program, musicians will get job safety and death guarantees.

So far, four musicians have died whose families have received guarantees from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

"In addition, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan provides compensation in the form of scholarships for the abandoned sons and daughters. I think that is quite calm and good for the families of the artists," said Yovie Widianto.
