JAKARTA - Chop Suey! from System Of A Down (SOAD) recently crossed the threshold of one billion streams on Spotify. This is their first track to reach a milestone.

The SOAD achievement on Spotify comes more than two years after the music video for Chop Suey! surpassed a billion views on YouTube.

Chop Suey! is the first single from SOAD's second album, Toxicity. The single was released in August 2001 and earned the band's first Grammy nomination in 2002 for "Best Metal Performance".

"This song is about how we are considered different depending on how we get through it," SOAD guitarist/vocalist Daron Malayan stated about Chop Suey! quoted from Blabbermouth.

"Everyone deserves to die. Like, if I am now dead for drug abuse, they may say I deserve it because I abused dangerous drugs. Therefore the sentence, 'I cry when the angel deserves to die.'"

SOAD has been on tours occasionally since ending the break in 2011, but has only managed to record two songs in 18 years, namely Protect The Land and Genocidal Humanoidz.

Released in November 2020, the song was motivated by the conflict between Artsakh and Azerbaijan, with all the proceeds from its sale being used to support humanitarian efforts in the Armenian homeland of SOAD.

Together with other donations from fans on their social pages, they have raised more than 600,000 US dollars.

In 2018, Melakian publicly accused singer Serj Tankian of not wanting to record new material, with Tankian answering that creative and financial problems with Malayan caused a deadlock.

In a message on Facebook, Tankian wrote that Manlaian wanted to control the SOAD's creative process, took more money from publishing and became the only band member to speak to the press.
