Chery Omoda 5 Ready To Make A Breakthrough In The British Market, Offered More Expensive Than In Indonesia

JAKARTA - Since its global launch last year, the Chery Omoda 5 has managed to steal the attention of automotive fans around the world. This success is none other than thanks to the design and technology offered in this SUV.

In its bid to expand its global market share, Chery recently announced its plans to bring Omoda 5 to the UK market. This model is Chery's first step in expanding into the international market.

The Chery Omoda 5 is scheduled to arrive at the British market in February 2024. The arrival of this model will also be accompanied by the provision of a wide network of dealers.

"We plan to have about 40-50 dealers when we launch them in February," said Victor Zhang, UK's Chery Manager, as quoted by Autocar, Monday, September 11.

Omoda 5 has a length dimension of 4,400 mm, a width of 1,830 mm, a height of 1,585 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,630 mm. In the British market, the Chery Omoda 5 will be equipped with a 1.6 liter TGDI engine that produces 194 dk of power and a 290 Nm of torque.

Chery Omoda 5 in the Comfort variant will offer 17-inch alloy rims, 10.25-inch touchscreens, dual-zone climate control systems, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, two wireless charging ports for device devices, as well as ambient lighting.

Meanwhile, trim Noble will add additional features such as heating on a larger 18-inch skin-coated steering wheel.

The price of the Chery Omoda 5 is estimated to range from 24,000 to 27,000 pounds, equivalent to Rp460.5 million to Rp518.1 million. However, even though the price is higher than in Indonesia, the Omoda 5 in the vehicle segment is very affordable in the UK.

Chery has an ambitious target of selling up to 10,000 Omoda 5 units in the UK, including ICE, PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), and BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) versions. However, Chery is currently more focused on electric vehicles.

Selain Omoda 5, Chery juga berencana untuk memperkenalkan model lainnya di Inggris, termasuk Jaecoo 7, SUV berukuran besar dengan pilihan mesin gas dan plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

Chery will also bring the Omoda 5 EV to the UK, which will compete with Toyota bZ4x and Nissan Ariya. The model will be equipped with a 61 kWh capacity battery that produces 221 dk of power, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, and has a range of up to 450 km with fast charging from 0 to 80 percent in just 25 minutes.

With the arrival of Chery, the Chinese brand is increasingly completing its presence on the British market, in line with the efforts of Great Wall Motors (GWM) through the Ora brand that has introduced its electric vehicles in the UK and Europe.
