No Kidding, Lightyear Film Displays The Original Elements Of Space Exploration

JAKARTA - Producer Galyn Susman said Pixar and Disney's latest film, Lightyear, brought many original elements from space exploration. Susman said producer Lindsey Collins introduced him and his team to International Space Station (ISS) astronauts Tom Marshburn and Kjell Lindgren.

"And between the two, we were treated to several days of comprehensive exploration at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. We saw the original control center for the Apollo missions, as well as the one used today to track the ISS," Susman said.

Through the visit, the team learned a lot about the construction of the spacesuit, buttons, dials, and existing badges. In addition, the team was guided through a replica of the US ISS headquarters and a laboratory containing vehicles such as trainers and capsules.

This, according to Susman, provides a lot of inspiration and references both in terms of stories and visuals for the Lightyear film. Speaking of voice actors, Susman revealed the reason for choosing Chris Evans to play Buzz Lightyear.

"When it comes to Buzz, it's important to distinguish our hero Buzz from the toys based on his character and represented in the film 'Toy Story'. So, we needed a new voice for Buzz," said Susman.

"He had to have a good, rich voice, be able to be dramatic and funny, and above all, he had to be heroic without looking arrogant. It was very difficult, and we knew right away that we had to ask Chris (Evans)."

Susman said that it turns out that Evans is a big fan of animated films. "He brought love and passion to this project, as well as his countless acting talent. He was even present in the animation production and cheered on the team. This is really a great collaboration," said Susman.

"Lightyear is a sci-fi action-adventure film and should have a bombastic sci-fi score. Michael Giacchino has been a friend and colleague for years now. That's not the only reason he is Lightyear's first and only choice," said Susan.

"From 'Star Trek' and 'Rogue One,' he has clearly proven his ability to make music for sci-fi films." Meanwhile, Lightyear is scheduled to be present in June 2022.
