JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (Wamenlu) of the Republic of Indonesia, Pahala Mansury has opened his voice regarding the continuation of the European Union's lawsuit to the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding the policy to prohibit nickel exports.

Pahala admits that there are differences of opinion between the European Union and Indonesia regarding the export ban policy.

For this reason, RI will also use the WTO institution to file an appeal.

"In this case, we appeal to the appelate body, which is indeed an institution authorized for us to appeal this matter," said Pahala, quoted on Thursday, November 16.

Not only conducting an appeal, RI will also take other routes such as to the European Parliament to convey Indonesia's views regarding the policy of prohibiting nickel exports.

As a country with abundant nickel reserves, Pahala ensures that Indonesia can become a trading and investment partner.

"Seeing that Indonesia as a country that has a large enough amount of nickel reserves, of course, we also want to have good trade relations with Europe and we see and convey that Indonesia can become a good trading partner," explained Pahala.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) revealed that Indonesia would continue to make appeals after being sued by the European Union in the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding the ban on nickel ore exports.

Jokowi hopes that the next leader will have great guts to take risks, in order to continue downstreaming Indonesia's nickel. If there are no more legal remedies, it doesn't matter because the domestic nickel industry is ripe.

"Later, if you lose again, there will be no even higher effort, that's okay, the industry has been completed, I estimate that in 3 years this industry will all be finished," Jokowi said at a meeting of the national leader of the Jokowi Young Ulama Solidarity or Samawi at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Saturday, October 7th.

The President predicts that in the next few years, the downstream nickel industry will mature more.

The raw goods processing industry into finished goods or semi-finished goods will be formed. For this reason, the next Indonesian leader is very influential.
