JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is preparing an independent fish feed production program to support the development of efficient cultivation fisheries.

The production of independent fish feed focuses on the use of local raw materials and the management of feed according to standards and certification.

"Pakan fish is one of the most important components in fishing cultivation business activities in order to support the achievement of the cultivation production target," said Director General of Aquaculture, Tb Haeru Rahayu, quoted from the KKP official website, Thursday, October 26.

The reason is, fish feed is the dominant factor in the success of aquaculture. Meanwhile, the cost of fish feed in cultivation activities reaches 60-70 percent.

The Director-General, who is often called Tebe, said that there are two strategies promoted by the KKP in terms of developing fish feed production.

First, a medium-term strategy (2021-2024) that focuses on obtaining local raw materials and efficient feed management. Meanwhile, long-term strategies (2025-2045) focus on using plant and local raw materials in accordance with commodity specific nutrition.

In addition, ensuring the tracing of feed in comprehensive application for feed certification (CPPIB) and feed registration.

It is known, the goal of a long-term strategy until 2045 is to focus on environmentally friendly feed production, and not to damage the ecology. By 2045, Indonesia can be self-sufficient in plant-based fish feed.

The government has also set a national cultivation production target of around 22.65 million tons by 2024, with 45.56 percent being fish and shrimp which require about 13.37 million tons of feed.

The KKP also conducts several controls on the food in circulation, namely fish feed that will be distributed must have a fish feed registration certificate. The certificate is given for each type and brand of fish feed and is valid for 5 years and can be extended.

Business actors who make artificial fish feed must have a CPPIB certificate. Meanwhile, business actors who import fish feed and/or raw materials for fish feed must have a recommendation for importing fish feed and/or fish feed raw materials.

For your information, the number of fish feed registered at the KKP until October 2023 is 1,631 feed brands. The fish feed that has been registered is produced by imported fish feed producers as many as 605 brands and producers of local or independent fish feed as many as 1,026 brands.

As for the composition, shrimp feed is 33 percent and fish feed is 67 percent.
