Import Products Entering The Republic Of Indonesia Must Fulfill SNI, Food And Cosmetics Mandatory To Include A BPOM Certificate

JAKARTA - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan (Mendag Zulhas) said imported products entering the country would have to meet the criteria for the Indonesian National Standard (SNI).

Food and cosmetics must also include a certificate from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM).

This was said by Zulhas after visiting traders at the Cililitan Wholesale Center, East Jakarta, Tuesday, October 3.

"From this BPOM whether it is feasible or not, then the HS (Harmonized System Code) has a suitable number or not, don't let the A HS goods but the products are different," Zulhas was quoted as saying by ANTARA.

Zulhas added that the list of imported goods (positive lists) is being discussed and decided by several relevant ministries and institutions.

"Positive lists will be closed from the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs and other ministries, then we will convey them," he said.

The Ministry of Trade, he said, cannot be alone in setting a list of items that are allowed to be imported.

This is because imported goods are also closely related to other ministries such as the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Agriculture and others.

Zulkifli said that the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) Number 31 of 2023 related to Business Licensing, Advertising, Development, and Supervision of Business Actors in Trade Through Electronic Systems is proof that the government is here to protect micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

With the separation between social media and social commerce and the determination of a minimum price of 100 US dollars per unit for finished goods from abroad which are directly sold by traders (mechants) to Indonesia through cross-border e-commerce platforms, it is no longer making MSME actors mired.

"MSMEs can develop if the ecosystem supports, otherwise, they don't develop," he said.

Previously, Zulkifli said, TikTok Shop was willing to follow government regulations related to the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) Number 31 of 2023 regarding electronic trade.

According to Zulkifli, TikTok will not be given any concessions regarding the deadline for closing TikTok Shop.

If it is still operating and violates the regulations, then TikTok Ship will be sanctioned.
