JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir plans to close the children of state-owned companies. Especially those that are not needed and burden the performance of the parent company.

Currently, said Erick, the BUMN's children and grandchildren have penetrated 173 companies.

He and Deputy Ministers of SOEs Kartika Wirjoatmojo and Rosan Roeslani will review.

"We are committed to closing SOE grandchildren who are not needed. I think the number of 173 is Mr. Sesmen, we have to review again, and the Deputy Ministers, I think the time is still there, if we can close again," he said in a working meeting with Commission VI of the DPR, written Friday, September 15.

He considered that if the parent company continued to open new children and grandchildren, the company could run inefficiently.

Therefore, he will review whether the whereabouts of this subsidiary are needed.

"Because indeed, if the relationship is continued, the children and grandchildren will not be efficient. If it is necessary, okay, but if it is not necessary, we should continue to subtract it," he explained.

The House Of Representatives Questions The Motive For The Establishment Of BUMN's Children And grandchildren

In this meeting, a member of Commission VI of the DPR Heman Khaeron highlighted the issue of the large number of BUMN grandchildren.

Herman also questioned the reason why SOEs continue to form new companies.

"BUMN grandchildren, I agree to be evaluated. I used to criticize why SOEs are grown up, make children, make grandchildren and so on. What is the motive?," he said.

He also questioned whether the motive for forming this BUMN children and grandchildren was to avoid supervision from the DPR. The reason is, the DPR can only supervise at the parent or holding level.

"The motive is, is it so that it cannot be monitored by the DPR? The DPR oversees the holding or the parent. And then only those who are related, those with correlations, but if they are grandchildren, they are sometimes difficult to touch," said Herman.
